So, I have decided to log my training on my blog, instead of the apps I normally use, Fitr or Sugarwod. One reason being that I own everything on this blog and nothing on those third party apps. The second reason is that the search feature I have on this website, makes it extremely easy to find a w.o.d ( Workout of the day ) I have done in the past.
It might also be useful to some, to see how a 45 year old trains. You can find my training log here
Okay, so I succumbed to Apple marketing, or should I say to YouTube marketing, because, I just purchased the iPad Pro 11” with the magic keyboard and the Apple Pencil. The reasoning behind the purchase? I want to replace my MacBook Pro M1 with this iPad. I do believe, that this is possible for 90% of my use, the other 10% is coding and a few things I do with Photoshop.
So basically, I’ll try this solution for a few weeks to see if I can manage, if not, I’ll just return it. And I must say that after one day of use, things have changed a lot since I used an iPad a few years ago. I can now plug it into my Studio Display and use it fullscreen. And the form factor is actually quite nice.
Photography
For my photography, it’s way better than using my Mac. Because the Leica Photos App is so simple and straightforward, I just connect my Leica Q3 via Bluetooth, download the pictures I want to the App, send them straight to Lightroom Mobile for editing and that’s it. No cables, no memory card, nothing. I can save them directly to Photos. It’s so straightforward it almost felt like I skipped a step when I did it.
Video editing
I haven't tried video editing yet, I know it’s possible, you can even use FCPX or even DaVinci Resolve, but I’m not sure my workflow will adapt, and since I have a lot of effects I use on FCPX that I can’t bring over to the IPad I don’t think that will do, but at least I’ll try it out.
Coding
I can’t have a local host on the iPad so this part I won’t even try. I know I can use VsCode server, I’ve seen some people using that on YouTube but that seems daunting to set up just to write some HTML and CSS.
Conclusion
Those two weeks will be a test to see how much the iPad can make me forget those two last fails, to the point where I can justify keeping both my M1 MacBook Pro and the iPad or if it is still too early to replace a laptop with a tablet. I must admit that if I didn’t write code and edit videos, I would have switched a long time ago. Time will tell if this is it.

My go to, to find personal blogs and inspiration for minimal websites and personal websites: Dead Simple Sites. It's been great so far ! So much people out there ...
I started mediation. Again ...
Yesterday I started meditating for the third or maybe fourth time. I had a few go on and off with meditation since 2008 ! But I've had a very, very long time span of continuous sittings every day. Not one day without meditating for more than a year and half, but then I dropped the ball. Don't even remember why ?
All I know is that if I go more than 1 day without, I all goes to s..t after. But even with that knowledge I still dropped the ball ! What a shame ...
But yesterday I started again, so today marks my second consecutive day ! hooray. The book "atomic habits" by James Clear talks a lot about that precise point, that when trying to create a habit you can not, not do it, for more than one day in a row. So now I'm starting from the beginning, again.
The worst of it is I know that you should not have the time to do anything you must take the time, if what you are trying to do, or implement in your life, is important to you.
So I have decided to take the time to meditate. You the reader of this blog can hold me accountable to that decision if we ever meet ;)
TAKE THE TIME !
You can believe all you want, as long as your belief doesn't become an experience, it means nothing.
A few month ago, I stumbled upon a YouTube video about how to set up your new Mac, for developers. I didn't have a new Mac, I'm not a developer, but I like to watch such videos, as sometimes I discover a quicker way of doing something, or an app that can save me time, or I just like to see how other Mac users use their MacBook.
That is how I discovered Raycast App, a kind of Alfred, or even spotlight but much better and much more customisable. For instance I just typed "JP" in Raycast and it launched the "Ghost writing page" were I'm actually writing this article. That is what I mean by save me time. You can create shortcuts, short names for app that you use a lot and many more things that I just haven't had time to get into yet. I will very soon though.
Anyway I thought I'd share this app, as it has truly changed the way I use my Mac and in a good way !
I'va always been a great fan of IA aka "Information Achitects" and all of their products. From the IA wordpress template they made back in the days, to the infamous IA Writer that I often use to write notes.
And now I just discovered that they sell this amazing looking notebook ! Truly beautiful and sooo minimalist. I would have no use for it but I would very much like to purchase it, just to feel it and look at it... I'm geeking out but come on ? isn't it just gorgeous ?
Here we go again ! And yet another design for this personal website. Since the start of this year there's been at least three versions, all very similar but still. It's a drug ! I surf the web, mostly small personal websites and blog and every time I see something I like in terms of design or functionality, I have to have it, and I start implementing it. This then leads to a complete overhaul of my website.
I need to get a grip on this, or I will spend 90% of my time making designs, instead of writing. This is a blog after all, articles and thoughts are more important than the design around it.
This time around I wouldn't be able to name the websites that inspired me as there are way to many, and still the design is absolutely the most simple it could be. I have given myself a personal challenge, not to redesign anything before I have written at least 10 articles ( long form ). If I manage to fulfil the challenge, I might not even want to do a redesign.
Colophon :
- Font : Unigeo
- Using Ghost ( so good )
- Almost no Js ( except for Fitvids )
- Made in : Vscode
- On a MacBook Pro 14" M1
A while back I wrote about having an option to follow and interact with different independent websites like you can do in twitter or Facebook. It seems that the Web 3.0 is coming soon to ghost ! Can't wait to see how it all plays out ! Will people dust off their own blogs ? Will it become mainstream again to have your blog ?
Now that the redesign is almost done, About 90% ! it's time to start writing more ! But that's not so easy ! I definitely need to make it a habit. At least once a day ? even a little post twitter-like. I made the design for it !
I'm on a roll, I'm having so many ideas for this website so many small things to code still ! but trying to keep the structure the same as I always come back to something similar anyway !
